Twilight

I stumbled home last night from a sophisticated APT engagement to find my better half snuggled up with a recently purchased copy of New Moon. For those not in the know, this is book two of Stephanie Meyer's ongoing Twilight series. These books are eveywhere and the movies are forthcoming. So fans of Buffy, rest easy knowing that the vampire-fantasy-teen melodrama is alive and well.

The plot follows two young lovers, one with fangs (the fella) and one without (the lass). As far as I can tell, this seemingly well meaning series is actualy exploiting the primal urges of women around the world, which is unfair.

You see, the ladies dig mysterious dudes that look, act, or are in fact, monsters. Hence my wolf-like appearance (Me gusta el tablon de mar). It is no secret that I have been knocking 'em dead for years. Additionally, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein is a major player. He makes Don Juan look like Don Rickles...

But would Frankenstein or yours truly try and make money off of this? Not likely. Shame on you Miss Meyer. Read away folks, but you have been warned!

Here is the trailer for the first film.

Consider these fine vampire films for your viewing pleasure....
1. Near Dark (Scary)
2. Once Bitten (Silly)
3. Nosferatu (Classic)
4. Salem's Lot (Maine Connection)

...and if you missed it, read my ladies most recent Switch article. It is dramaculous.

Jim Henson pre-muppets

I went to the Jim Henson exhibit (twice!) at the Smithsonian (now on tour to other cities!)to check out some muppet fossils and caught this student video of Henson's that I just love.

he seemed like such a talented, creative, zany, kind, and often self-effacing (kermit is modeled after his own personality) guy. it also made me want to get into the back muppet catalog...The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Roald Dahl's The Witches, The Muppet Show and movies, Fraggle Rock, Follow That Bird, old school Sesame Street...

Persepolis

When not brewing up cosmic concoctions in the lab, or taking "sick days" to make snowy turns with W2, or saving the world from evil orc invasions, Dr. D hangs out with over-fed and over-caffeinated teens in a place we like to call school...

Traditionally we were taught - as teachers, parents, and even kids - that comics were amateur, childish, and certainly not quality reading material. All the more reason to read them, collect them, and spend our hard-earned allowance on them we told ourselves. As it turns out, if you start calling them "graphic novels," they suddenly gain street cred, and you can even get your department head to order a few dozen copies.

Check Persepolis folks. It's entertaining, historical, and educational. It's Iranian history meets coming of age, in a format we all love...

Furthermore, it's now available on film. And if you're scared of the French audio, or hate reading subtitles, don't worry! You can change the language settings to English, and eliminate the subtitles, only to be graced by the sweet vocals of Sean Penn and Iggy Pop. Enjoy!

And for those of you to whom Persepolis is old news, check this other graphic novel, high on Dr. D's list, and soon to be in APT's permanent archive:

Check it...

Great interview with Paulie...class act...

Also, don't forget to check one of Scorsese's finest hours...easily Cruise's...enhanced greatly with the sound turned all the way up...

Also...a new post...

And please welcome...Dr. D, the newest contributor to Live from APT.
Number one with a big ass gun...work it, my friend...work it.

"Stay Ready...

...ain't got to get ready."

Regardless of the Red Sox being in the playoffs, Obama holding steady, and the Pats trying to find their rhythm, I am always READY for basketball season.

Check this sneaker spot featuring Billups, Jordan Farmar, Dwight Howard, TD, KG, and Josh Smith. They even let Sebastian Telfair play. This pick-up game looks exactly like the Team APT run over at Reiche school during those long winter nights.

APT got next.

Gunnin for #1

Oh Yeah! APT ballers unite for a field trip of grand proportions. Thursday October 10th is the date and Portland's Space Gallery is the place.

They will be showing Beastie Boy Adam Yauch's new documentary, Gunnin for that #1 Spot. The flick is about hoops at Rucker Park. Peep this interview of our boy. I think Sarah Palin might be asking the questions...yuck.

This trailer has me excited. Bayless, Kevin Love, Brandon Jennings, Donte Green. This is the future of the NBA right here.

Drop me a line so I can coordinate tix in advance. Where you at El Man, Roomie, SB 1200, Big Brother, T-I-M, Graymatter, Dr. D, Duke, D.O.C., Block-Party, T-Bird, and others. This will be outstanding.

Just in time for the start of the NBA campaign. I post, therefore I am.
