Do the Tin Soldier
The Mad Scientist took in the Lakers-Celtics game at the Fleet a few nights ago. The overtime tilt went to the Lakes. Our boy in the stands told me that he wasn't about to let the outcome of the game ruin an amazing time. Liberation!
He sent me several pics, but none as good as Big Bird working on his halftime routine for the up coming NBA All-Star Game. Click on the image to make it larger. Get busy like the Prez, Pau.

He also caught up with Celtics rookie swingman Bill Walker, who was musing about the cost of fries at the Fleet. "Those better be some good fries for $8.50, damn!"
Stay tuned. On February 27th, staff versus student faculty game. Mad Scientist is going to lace em up...for the first time ever. I predict a hospital visit.

Prefuse 73
Hardworking, glitch-hop superstar Gil Scott Herron is getting ready to release a new album. Check the cover art strangeness and other critical details over at Pitchfork.
In the meantime, wiggle your ass to some Preverted Undertones.
If the new one is half as good as his celebrated 2003 effort One Word Extinguisher, it will be on heavy rotation.
Did Roomie already post this one? I appreciate Q-Tip doing what he can to support public transit. And in case you missed it, and my guess is you did, peep Radiohead and Young Hov at the Grammy's.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Although I haven't seen the film yet, I have read the short story. After just wrapping up a unit with my junior honors students at school over F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, I was intrigued to learn that this new Brad Pitt flick was based on one of Fitzgerald's early short stories. Certainly a shift from the style and intention we usually associate with the author, but a good read nonetheless.
Check it out or print a free copy of the short story here.
And check the film trailer here:
Anyone want to go?

Sugar Ray
Roomie is boarding a plane for Orlando to get weird with Mickey, Minnie, and the Jostens Get Fresh Crew.

Meanwhile, Ray Allen and the Celts stole one last night from Philly.
Shuttlesworth is like a machine. Run to the spot, catch the ball, square, and share. The real magic on this play happens away from the ball. Watch Big Baby set the back screen to spring Ray. Nice.
This is the perfect set up for Thursday's throw down with the Kobe and the Lakes. Our boy, the Mad Scientist will be at the Fleet. Expect a full report on Friday.

'Freestyle': The Flick
I took in this sweet flick, 'Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme' this weekend as part of D.C.'s Hip Hop Café series, and immediately thought of the APT kids. See it if you haven't yet.
Featuring some great freestylin and battles from Mos' Def, MC Supernatural, Medusa, Boots, Juice
and a 17 year-old Biggie, among others.
