Greg Stump Productions

Those of us in Maine love to give props to the people and things that have emerged victorious from this calm, seemingly sedate and mellow state. Writers like Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Stephen King, musicians like Ray Lamontagne, and of course mainstays like Moxie Cola and the L.L. Bean backpack craze that continues today. What can I say? We've got it all: great blueberries, abundant lobster, and as many authentic New England lighthouses as you could possibly cram into a long-weekend road trip. Why would anyone leave?

One individual of whom I recently have become a fan is Greg Stump of
Greg Stump Productions. Greg is the God of epic 1980's ski films, complete with cheesy soundtracks more appropriate for the porn industry. He combines skilled skiers with neon jumpsuits, horrific plot lines with Western mountain sunburns, even throwing in sponsorship from such companies as Swatch, Coors, and Adidas. In viewing the films, one might wonder about the sobriety of the ski stars, their mountain antics suggestive of more than just the white powder that falls from the sky in winter. Either way, I'm envious of the skills visible in the films, and encourage you all to give props to this Maine native that hails from Shawnee Peak and Sugarloaf roots.

Check this sample from his 1988 hit, The Blizzard of Ahhs:

And then of course one of his more recent films, Fistful of Moguls:

Enjoy!

Either myself or Duke played the backing track at the last Group Hug Show. The Flame of Life!

Who is sporting the mohawk and blue ski pants next trip up? Luke?

Best quote: "Ski films are a distant cousin of surf films..."

Music in both flicks are DOPE.
