Lidz.

Since the dawn of time, prior to the garden, before Kanye, before Naismith, homosapiens have adorned their heads with hats. Some worn for fashion, others worn for protection, some with brims, and others without. The rest is truly up to the creativity of the hatsmith and the courage of the consumer.

Hats and caps have been the subject of art, intrigue, even band names. Here are some now type specimens for your viewing pleasure.

Estelle

Via London comes Estelle...

I first came by her in '05 with the single "1980", co-written by Lauren Hill. Check the vid below...the hook has Hill written all over it:

Well wouldn't you know it, Kan-yeeze hooks up with her and the result is below:

Dig the downtempo-club beat and girl can sing...

W2 needs a coat like Kan.

Stringless Pleasure

For playas only...

Cool Hunting, a fav site of APT for all things innovative is featuring the Stringless Pleasure Stereo System this week here.

Reminds me of my uncle's stereo system back in '78...wood paneling, 8 Track, turntable deck, room for LP storage. Same look and concept here...this time, you just plug in your iPod or slide in a CD. Smooth.

Devils Haircut

The Coens and Javier Bardem (below) wrapped up at the Oscars last night. It is about time! They have been killing it forever...even that weird barber flick with Billy Bob.

Count me in as disappointed that Cate Blanchett did not lock down another statue for her turn as a svelte and spun Bob Dylan. That flick got so far under my skin it is downright scary.

Baron gets NYTimes run

Check APT favorite Baron Davis getting some press in the Sunday New York Times.

Scene sounds like APT on any given night...minus the pic of Laura Bush, of course...

Good Winter

The blog machine has been busy hyping folk stud Bon Iver. He is making his way to Portland on Monday at our beloved Space Gallery. Dr. D has been on me to give some APT love to his new favorite artist for awhile now. Think Iron & Wine and Devendra Banhart. Homeboy took up in a rural Wisconsin cabin (Ray LaMontagne style) and set about crafting some killer songs. Bring your berets, showtime is 9 pm.

8th Grade Dance Mix

Can I kick it?

Yep, you can...

King Roomie Rock just posted a new mix*.
Download here.

APT recommends you put this on as you are getting ready to go out tomorrow night...

Who says the late 80's aren't dope?

You can also listen right here:

Forever Funky

Roomie hooked me onto El Michael's Affair and our soul brother over at Pagin the Devil Twice is mad for the The Dap King's. I had no idea they were linked to the same label. Allmusic connects the dots today on the modern funk you need to keep your inner big legged mama movin.

I want to tip my cap to my local board shop, Sunny Breeze. Day 1 of my school vacation finds Portland, Me sporting spring like temps conducive to a half mile stroll to cop new bindings.

I arrive and smiling attendant number 1 is reading a skate mag while watching Space Balls on the screen most often reserved for Laird Hamilton ads...er movies.

The dude is sort of bothered by the disruption that my intended purchase represents, but he shakes it off to tell me way more than I need to know about fifteen different bindings, culminating with "you shouldn't buy any of them cuz the best one for the cash is out. The one I ride."

Then, Broseph gets motivated and disappears into the back for 10, and returns with the last set. Oh yeah and they are 25 percent off. Nice service. Buy local kids!

Birthday

Thriller turns twenty five this month. I will never forget the first time I saw my childhood girlfriend dancing on the playground to PYT. I was 7. It CHANGED my life. Love him or hate him the dude can make good music.

Mark Ronson drops Man in the Mirror in MJ's honor/dishonor. This mix up features Talib Kweli, Camp Lo (don't sleep on these guys), and Ghostface. Check it.

I got thirty two on lock today and celebrated the Mad Scientists thirty fifth yesterday with he and Dr. D on the very snowy mountain tops. Big fun, big turns. Much love to all you lovers out there.

APT Flick(s) of the Week

Here's two from director Jacques Audiard:

De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté (The Beat That My Heart Skipped)

Sur mes lèvres (Read My Lips)

Two wonderfully told stories, not to mention the outstanding performances (Romain Duris in "The Beat That My Heart Skipped" and Emmanuelle Devos in "Read My Lips").

Numero Uno

Last night, Uno (above, click for larger) took the chip at the 132nd Annual Westminster Dog Show in NYC. First Beagle ever to win...

My lady in high school had a beagle and I have to say it was one of the most obnoxious animals I've ever encountered. But check the video of Uno (above)...watching this last night while I was on the phone with my mom, we both knew he was going to take it (even though my mom was pulling hard for Marge, the Weim).

Here's another good shot...check him one more time...click for larger.
“He’s my best friend...he’s just a great friend.”

Also, in other news...nice coat...

"Now I'm Stuck in the Closet!"

Brace yourself APTers. I give all due props to R Tex for turning me onto this. There is nothing I can say that will do justice to the freaked out horror of watching a pervert trying to wrestle with his demons via youtube. There are like 34 episodes of this. First one to watch them all wins a prize.

Chapters 1-5

"He looks under the dresser, I pull out my Beretta." What? RV make TE watch this.

OB

Shout out to APT memebers Big Brother, MC Saiyid and Masta Chi for rolling to the Maine State caucus yesterday in their respective towns.

The outcome of their efforts and others like them...national news...click here.

Another shout out goes to APT members to B-Ray and Block Party as well for making the trip to Bangor to hear OB speak...

Graphic Pulp

Mitt is out. Sadly. Seen here signing his life over to the devil (she in red to the left, think that dwarf from twin peaks).

In other news, I would like to expose my serious graphic novel dorkery. I am currently enthralled with the tastiest of comic morsals, DC/Vertigo's 100 Bullets.

The premise: highly flawed lowlifes are on the edge and someone is responsible. Now, a mysterious man appears with a briefcase and an oppurtunity. 100 untraceable bullets, a gun, and irrefutable proof of who has done them wrong. Classic noir izzle. Think the Usual Suspects meets Omar style thuggery. It is cooler than Cloverfield I assure you!

Lisa Hannigan

Caught this lady on the tele last night singing a Billie Holiday tune...Damien Rice's former backup singer...for all you folkies out there...

Check her here here and here...

Oh...AND here singing with homeboy...

YES WE CAN

Super/Fat Tuesday and at 10:45 EST. time, Obama is leading 197 delegates to 190. I am keeping some fingers seriously crossed for Cali. These cats are too:

plus Joan Baez, plus Garrison Keillor, plus Oprah...

Killer Combo

APT rumor mill places Roomie in Orlando. The paparazzi are considering leaking photos of the King and Goofy lip locked on the Log Flume. What?

In other news, the legendary Roots crew is in the studio with New York based TV on the Radio. Word is Danny Glover is making a documentray where by now type artist rework classic protest songs. Critical questions linger. What jam are they reconfiguring and more importantly, who is winning the fro off between the Roots Ahmir Questlove Thompson and TVOTR's Kyp Malone?

Good Food

My homeboy KH is a scientist and his special lady friend, Jess Hall and Oates is a D.O.C. While they have skills which the man seems to value, their best ones may be in the kitchen. They are working on a youtube cooking show. I got to sneak a peek at their first session. Here is a pic to whet the appetite.

Check the menu: Grilled Lamb Chops with salt and pepper. Baked Cajun Shrimp. Homemade Sour Dough Bread. Brussels with Roasted Red Pepper Pesto. Cauliflower Surprise with onions, cheddar, and thyme. Spinach Salad with white balsamic and parm. Diesel! And I don't even like meat.

Baron Snubbed

The NBA released their list of all star reserves yesterday. APT favorite Baron Davis was left off the list. With all due respect to David West of the New Orleans Hornets (only made it cuzz their hosting the game), it ain't a party without roller skates! Check the video.

PS Celts (minus KG) 96 Mavs 90!
