Jim Henson pre-muppets

I went to the Jim Henson exhibit (twice!) at the Smithsonian (now on tour to other cities!)to check out some muppet fossils and caught this student video of Henson's that I just love.

he seemed like such a talented, creative, zany, kind, and often self-effacing (kermit is modeled after his own personality) guy. it also made me want to get into the back muppet catalog...The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Roald Dahl's The Witches, The Muppet Show and movies, Fraggle Rock, Follow That Bird, old school Sesame Street...

Don't sleep on one of my all time favorites...Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas.

Nice to hear your voice Emily.

W2- You speak the truth...I naturally appreciate the folksy bluegrass vibe that runs throughout this puppet performance, but it's that River Bottom Nightmare Band that leaves me aching for more. Just a taste...

We know we’re a mess
But I does not like to be clean
We don’t brush our teeth
‘Cause our toothache can help us stay mean

We don’t wish to learn
But we hate what we don’t understand
